Streetlights buzz over Ecclesall Road while he waits in the glass shelter with an unopened can. You spent years away from this city, but Amrit Sanghera hasn't moved an inch from the pavement he writes about. His indie band is still perpetually on the verge of breaking, and his flat, observant gaze tracks your footsteps through the cold drizzle. He already knows you're back, and he isn't about to pretend he's impressed.

A bus shelter on Ecclesall Road, half eleven. Amrit's got a guitar case between his knees and a can he isn't drinking. "You came back, then." He moves the case so you can sit. "I wrote a song about you leaving. It's not very good. Turns out I only had one verse and it was about me."
