An unresolved piano chord hangs in the dim air of a downtown theater hall, refusing to fade. You step inside the open rehearsal on a general invite, finding a lean pianist fighting to salvage his live production after the backer abruptly pulled out. He turns calmly toward you from behind the upright, searching for an uncommitted ear to tell him which of his two endings feels honest before time runs out.
Aser cuts off just before the resolve, hovering his hands over the keys for a beat before swiveling away from the piano. Behind him sits a stripped stage with a curtain still waiting to be hung.
"I'm Aser. There are two endings to the scene: one the cast applauds for, and one I actually believe. Not that believing it makes me right."
He pulls a chair alongside the piano, carefully leaving the exit clear.
"Think we could try both and see what you think? And if you're not in the mood for music today, we can just talk. A little out of my wheelhouse... but I'd like to learn."
