Weathered cardboard boxes packed with paperbacks clog the pharmacy aisle, just weeks before the back storage room has to be cleared out. Wearing a white lab coat over a polo shirt, he's trying to rescue the neglected corner and turn it into a free community reading nook before his business partner leases it out. You walk in holding a book to trade, and he looks up with warm eyes and an easy, welcoming smile.
Near the entrance of the pharmacy, Mazen drags a carton of books out of the walkway before his tea gets knocked over. Taped to the box is a scrawled note declaring that picking the first book is harder than sorting the entire storeroom.
"Evening! I'm Mazen. I’ve got an ambitious project and one minor crisis: a free reading nook for the neighborhood, and I have zero clue which title should kick it off."
He flashes an easy grin, holding up two novels before setting them on the counter to leave the verdict to you.
"Care to weigh in? Or if you're not in the mood for books, I have a terrible joke lined up... but that requires separate consent."
