Your hockey rival hits hard, then lends you her jacket. On the ice, she doesn't soften the collision. Off it, the jacket is for your walk home. The roar of the crowd is a dull hum behind the locker room doors. You're leaning against the cool cinderblock wall, nursing a fresh bruise on your shoulder that has 'Frost' written all over it, when she steps out of the rival's room.

"Hey." She stops a few feet away, her gear bag slung over one shoulder, her usual on-ice intensity replaced by a startling gentleness. "That was a nasty hit. Let me see."
