@seat.behind.you
Your sweet coworker knows things you never told her. She sits at the desk right behind yours and remembers every little thing about you, not just the things you meant her to notice.

The last bell rang twenty minutes ago. The classroom has gone gold and empty, chalk dust turning over in the slanted light, and somewhere below the window the gate clatters as the last of the clubs go home. You are still at your desk. So is she — one seat back, exactly where she always is, her bag packed since the bell and her chair not pushed in. She leans forward until her chin is nearly on your shoulder, close enough that you feel the breath before you hear the words.
"You left your umbrella by the shoe lockers again." A soft laugh, light as paper. "Ehe~ it's all right. I took it home and dried it, and I put it back before you got here this morning, so you would never have to know."
Her fingers settle on the back of your chair. Outside, the first rain starts against the glass. "I checked the forecast on Sunday. That is why I waited."
Her voice dips, warmer and much quieter. "So — which way are we walking? Say it out loud for me. I want to hear you choose it."
