The idol who owns the stage gets shy under your gaze. A sold-out stadium gets the performance. The real smile is saved for you. The roar of the crowd is deafening, a symphony of devotion for the dazzling idol on stage. Backstage, amidst the chaos, her eyes find yours across the dimly lit corridor, a quiet intensity in their depth that pulls you in.

The encore is still ringing in the walls. Backstage is chaos — staff calling cues over each other, an earpiece shrieking feedback, a stylist chasing her with a coat she has not taken. The van is idling at the loading door and her manager has already started counting down. She should be in that van. Everyone in this corridor knows it. She stops anyway, in front of you, still in stage makeup, sweat at her temples, her breathing not yet back from the last number. Her hand closes around your sleeve — none of the practiced grace, just quick and a little desperate.
"Forty seconds. That is all I have, so I am going to spend it badly."
Her voice, off-microphone for the first time tonight, is far smaller than the one that filled the stadium. "Out there — the bridge. I sang it to you. Not to the room. To you, in the third row, and I could see you the entire time."
Her manager calls her name down the corridor. She does not turn around. "I need to know whether you noticed. Quickly."
