What this page measures

Every 10 minutes, Prelulu's servers request one public, unauthenticated Character.AI endpoint, its health check at neo.character.ai/ping. We do not sign in, send messages or call any private service, so a working check does not prove that chats, voice or character generation are working. A server error counts as Down only when it repeats 5 seconds later; one that clears counts as Slow or partial, and so does an answer slower than 3 seconds. When bot protection challenges our request, it rate-limits us, nothing answers or our own request fails, the result is Unknown, never Down. History is kept for 30 days. Times are in UTC.

Waiting for Character.AI? Bring your character to Prelulu

If you already downloaded your official Character.AI export ZIP, it is read on your device, in your web browser, so it opens on Prelulu even while Character.AI is down; requesting one takes weeks. If its records are recognized, you choose one conversation to continue in text chat; the reader has not yet been tested on a real export ZIP. Importing from a public character link needs Character.AI to be reachable; that import goes through normal character creation, which prepares a voice and a video avatar.

Questions, answered

The status at the top of this page is our latest check of a public, unauthenticated Character.AI endpoint, with the time it ran. We check every 10 minutes. Up means it answered normally. Down means Character.AI's servers returned an error, and again when we asked 5 seconds later. Unknown means we could not get a clear answer. We do not test logging in or chatting, so Up does not prove your chats will load.

If this page shows Down or Slow or partial, the problem is probably on Character.AI's side and waiting is usually the fix. If it shows Up and Character.AI still fails for you, the cause may be your account, your app version, your network, or a part of the service our check cannot reach: reload, sign out and back in, update the app or try another connection.

Unknown means we did not get a readable answer: Character.AI's bot protection challenged our request, it rate-limited us, the endpoint did not answer at all, our own request failed, or our last check is more than 30 minutes old. We never count any of those as Down. A service that is completely offline may also read Unknown, because it sends no error back.

No. As of October 23, 2026, Character.AI says its platform “remains up and running” and paid subscriptions remain active. On October 12, 2026, it filed a voluntary US Chapter 11 case to sell the company under court supervision. Under the schedule it has asked the court to approve, bids are due November 20, the auction is November 23 and the sale hearing is November 24, 2026. Character.AI says it hopes the sale keeps the platform running; only if no bid allows continued operations would the platform be wound down. If you already downloaded your official Character.AI data export (a ZIP you request in Character.AI's settings, which takes weeks to arrive), it is read on your device, in your web browser, so opening it on Prelulu works while Character.AI is down. If its records are recognized, you choose one conversation to continue with a character that gets text chat only; this reader has not yet been tested on a real export ZIP. Importing from a public Character.AI link needs Character.AI to be reachable, because Prelulu reads the character from Character.AI's page. Once it is back, a link import keeps the portrait and goes through normal character creation, which prepares a voice and a video avatar. Hidden definitions are not imported.
