You can bring a character's available original text to Prelulu without having a model rewrite it. If you also have an account export, you can review one compatible conversation and continue it privately. Keep your original archive as a backup.
Choose a public link or your account export
| Method | What it provides | What to review |
|---|---|---|
| Public character or chat link | Available character fields; no private conversation | Name, introduction, greeting and background |
| Account export ZIP | Recognized character records and a selected compatible conversation | Character association, speakers, order, message count and available dates |
Import a character from a link
- Open the character on character.ai and copy its Share link or browser address. Both character.ai/character/… and character.ai/chat/… links are accepted.
- Paste it into Prelulu's import to load the available public character fields.
- Review the original name and greeting. The title becomes the introduction; description and available definition become background. Fill in missing required fields and choose visibility before saving.
Request your official account export
Follow Character.AI's current download instructions. On the web, open Profile Settings → Account → Manage Account & Data → Export Data. In the app, open Profile → Settings → Legal & Privacy → Export Data. Processing can take 3 to 4 weeks; download the archive within 7 days of receiving the email.
Review one conversation before uploading
- Open the ZIP in Prelulu's import. The archive is read locally in your browser.
- Choose a recognized character and one conversation. Check the original messages, speakers, sequence, counts and available dates. Separate conversations are never silently combined.
- Choose an owned character with empty history, or create the character from its reviewed fields. Existing chat history is never overwritten.
- Confirm the selected conversation. Only its messages and necessary import metadata are uploaded. Other chats and account details stay local.
- Open the saved chat and continue. If uploading is interrupted, reselect the same file, conversation and target to resume without duplicating messages or recreating the character.
What is preserved
- Original character fieldsAvailable name, greeting, title, description and definition are mapped without generation. Missing required fields need your input. Oversized content is refused, never silently shortened.
- Selected private historyAccepted message text, speaker, sequence and available original dates are preserved. A missing date stays unknown. Private conversation text never supplies public profile fields.
- Conversation continuityThe next reply uses the recent imported exchange instead of restarting the greeting. Older messages remain available to existing search and normal later memory processing. Import runs no AI summary, and does not load the entire archive into each prompt.
- Remaining limitsHidden definitions, unsupported metadata, incompatible voice identifiers, attachments and unrecognized records are not recreated. Import does not transfer another service's model or guarantee identical replies.
Text chat, privacy and costs
Saving a character imported from a public link starts normal character creation: the original portrait is kept and a voice and a video avatar are prepared, so you can call the character once they are ready. A character created from the account export gets text chat only; no portrait, voice or live avatar is generated, so it cannot be called. Existing moderation, visibility and character-creation pricing still apply. Importing old messages creates no paid chat turns, rewards or automatic contact; new conversations follow the usual rules.
Imported history belongs to your account and the selected character relationship. Resetting that chat removes it from your visible history and future context. Keep your source archive if you want an independent copy.
Bring your character and selected story over
Paste a public link or open your account export to review what can be imported. The character-creation price is shown before saving; your first eligible public character is free to create.
