• Nomi.ai — an AI companion app; its US App Store subscriptions include “Launch Plan Monthly” at $9.99 and “Standard Plan” at $15.99 (App Store listing, checked 2026-09-01). The sources we checked do not cover Nomi's call features, so check the app for what it currently offers.

What makes an AI friend video chat feel like a real conversation

An AI friend video chat feels like a conversation when the character is answering what you just said rather than playing a finished clip. On Prelulu, four things are worth noticing on your first call, and they are worth checking on any app you try:

• They answer what you just said. Mention something small and specific, and listen for it in the reply.
• You can change the turn. Cut in with a correction or a new thought, and see whether the conversation follows you.

What an AI friend is — and what it can't be
