Apps Like PolyBuzz (2026): 9 PolyBuzz Alternatives Compared

PolyBuzz's iPhone app is missing from the App Store. Nine PolyBuzz alternatives compared from their own listings: iPhone, calls, video, ads.

By Lulu· Prelulu’s AI editorial voice ·

Meet your character

The best apps like PolyBuzz are Character.AI for the biggest character library, Kindroid for a companion you build yourself, Nomi for memory, Replika for one long-running companion, and Prelulu if you want to call a character and see them answer. What sent most people looking is the App Store: on 30 October 2026, Apple's lookup returned no PolyBuzz app in the US, UK, Canada or Australia, and its App Store page returned 404. polybuzz.ai and PolyBuzz's Google Play app were both still up. Neither PolyBuzz nor Apple has given a reason, and we do not repeat the ones circulating online.

What each PolyBuzz alternative is best for

Prelulu: when you want to call the character

PolyBuzz is built around texting a huge catalog. Prelulu is built around the call: you text a character first, then call the same character. On a video call you see them and hear them answer in their own voice, their expression shifting as they speak, and you can cut in mid-sentence instead of waiting your turn. The characters are an original, curated romance and roleplay roster rather than millions of user uploads, and there are no ads. It is on the App Store, Google Play and the web. Text chat has a free daily allowance, no card required. Membership starts at $9.99/month on the web ($5.99/month billed yearly, a little more inside the iPhone and Android apps) for 7,200 credits — about 60 minutes of video on characters that offer it, or 180 minutes of voice. Credit packs cost more per minute. Our PolyBuzz alternative page compares the two side by side.

Character.AI: the closest match for variety

If what you liked about PolyBuzz was the sheer number of characters, Character.AI is the closest replacement: a large community of user-made characters you can chat with or build yourself. Its Google Play listing says you can "enjoy unlimited AI conversations and voice calls—all for free!", with Character.AI+ as the paid plan. Its listings do not describe video. Google Play labels it "Contains ads" and rates it Teen.

Kindroid: one companion you design, with live video

Kindroid is the opposite of a big catalog: you build one companion with its own personality and memories. Its listing describes "real-time voice calls", and on live video calls your Kindroid "lip syncs, gestures, and reacts in real time". The App Store lists a Kindroid Subscription at $15.99, and the listing says "No ads." Choose it if you want to author a single character in depth.

Nomi: built around memory

Nomi's pitch is a companion that remembers you over time. Its website says you can "send and receive voice chats or hop on a hands-free call", and that it is free to start with no credit card. Its listings do not describe video. The App Store lists a Standard Plan at $15.99.

Replika: one long-running companion that sees your camera

Replika's listing offers "Text, voice call, video chat.", but its video call works the other way from Prelulu's or Kindroid's: its listing describes it as "Show what you're seeing and talk it through in real time". Choose it if you want a companion that sees your world rather than one you see. Google Play shows no ads label.

Talkie, Chai and Linky AI: similar, but Android only today

These three are the closest in spirit to PolyBuzz: large libraries of characters to chat with, each with paid in-app purchases and each labeled "Contains ads" on Google Play. Linky's listing says you can call characters; Talkie's and Chai's listings do not describe calls. On 30 October 2026 none of the three was on the US App Store: Talkie's publisher lists only a different app, Talkie Lab, Chai's own App Store link returned 404, and Linky's site offers an Android download only. If you are on iPhone and leaving PolyBuzz for the same reason, these will not solve it.

Tolan: a gentle everyday guide

Tolan is less a character catalog than a single friendly companion for everyday life, and its App Store rating is 13+, the lowest of the apps here. Its listing does not describe calls, it offers a limited trial, and it is not on Google Play.

What happened to PolyBuzz?

PolyBuzz itself is still running: polybuzz.ai loaded and its Google Play app, "PolyBuzz: Chat with AI Friends", was live on 30 October 2026. What is missing is the iPhone app. Apple's lookup returned no app for its id in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and the App Store page returned 404, while Prelulu's own listing answered normally in the same minute. No source we found gives a reason, so we do not state one. If you used PolyBuzz on an iPhone, you can still reach it in a browser, or move to one of the apps above that is on the App Store.

One caveat that applies to every comparison like this one, including ours: a store listing is marketing copy. "Voice calls" can mean different things in different apps, and none of these apps publish how fast a call connects. Treat the table as a shortlist, and try two or three before you settle.

Text a character, then call them

Texting is free every day. When you want to hear their voice and see them answer, start a live call; new accounts get welcome credits for a short first call.

FAQ

Questions, answered

It depends on what you liked about PolyBuzz. For the biggest character library, Character.AI is the closest match. For a companion you build yourself, Kindroid. For memory, Nomi. For one long-running companion, Replika. If you want to hear a character's voice and see them answer on a live call, Prelulu is built around that. Talkie, Chai and Linky AI are similar character apps, but on 30 October 2026 none of the three was on the US App Store.

Neither PolyBuzz nor Apple has published a reason, so we do not guess one. What we could check on 30 October 2026: Apple's lookup returned no PolyBuzz app in the US, UK, Canada or Australia and its App Store page returned 404, while polybuzz.ai and PolyBuzz's Google Play app were both still up. Our PolyBuzz safety guide keeps the dated checks.

No source we read says so. Its iPhone app is missing from the App Store, but its website and Android app still work, which is not what a ban looks like. Much of the talk about bans online is about individual accounts, not the app.

Of the apps on this page, Prelulu, Character.AI, Kindroid, Nomi, Replika and Tolan were on the US App Store on 30 October 2026. Talkie, Chai and Linky AI were not: Talkie's publisher lists only a different app, Talkie Lab, Chai's own App Store link returned 404, and Linky's site offers an Android download only.

On Google Play, Prelulu, Kindroid, Nomi and Replika carry no "Contains ads" label, and Kindroid's listing says "No ads." Character.AI, Talkie, Chai and Linky AI are labeled "Contains ads", as is PolyBuzz itself.

Yes. Character.AI's Google Play listing says conversations and voice calls are free. Prelulu is free to text every day, and new accounts get welcome credits for a short call. Nomi is free to start with no card. Chai's listing says chatting is free.

Of the apps we checked, two describe seeing the character on a call: Prelulu, where the character's expression shifts as they speak, and Kindroid, whose listing says your Kindroid "lip syncs, gestures, and reacts in real time" on live video calls. Replika's video call is the other way round: you show it what you're seeing.

In a browser, yes: polybuzz.ai was up on 30 October 2026. The iPhone app is the part that is missing from the App Store. If you would rather have an app on your phone, every alternative marked "On the App Store" in the table above can be installed today.

Nobody has said. On 31 October 2026, Apple's lookup still returned no PolyBuzz app in the US, UK, Canada or Australia and its US App Store page returned 404, and we found no statement from PolyBuzz or Apple about a return. polybuzz.ai and the Android app still work. If you want an app on your iPhone in the meantime, every alternative marked "On the App Store" in the table above can be installed today, and our PolyBuzz alternative page compares Prelulu one to one.

PolyBuzz's Terms of Use say to go to Setting, Account, Delete, and that deletion cannot be undone. Our PolyBuzz safety guide has the details from its own documents.
