What is Janitor AI?
Janitor AI is a platform for chatting with characters, which users create and share. Its app listings describe it as "where you step inside stories instead of just reading them", built for readers of romantasy, fanfiction and interactive stories. Besides Janitor's own chat models, its help center describes using third-party AI models, either through janitor+ Router, which subscribers can use on the web, or through an API proxy you set up in your settings. The company is JanitorAI Inc., based in the United States.
Is Janitor AI safe?
Janitor AI's Privacy Policy (updated September 17, 2026) describes what it collects and why:
- Your email, username, password and profile, the characters and personas you create, and your chat conversations and messages.
- Usage data such as pages visited, features used and search queries; device information; and an approximate location from your IP address.
- It uses this to run the platform, for content moderation, to enforce its rules, and for research to improve its AI systems.
- It shares information with service providers for hosting, analytics, payments, support and marketing, and when the law requires it.
- Its California privacy section says it does not sell your Personal Data as that law defines it, and the policy says payment information goes to payment processors and is not stored on its servers.
The Terms of Service say Janitor uses automated tools to scan content and human reviewers to assess reports, and that anyone can report content, with the Report button or by email, without needing an account. Creators label each character "Limited", for content suitable for general audiences, or "Limitless" when the help center's criteria for that label apply; the help center adds that the Limitless label never permits prohibited content. The help center also says the mobile app starts with mature content turned off by default, to meet App Store and Google Play guidelines. The terms allow only janitorai.com and the official apps, plus an API proxy you configure in settings; signing in through an unofficial client can get an account suspended or deleted. This article does not decide whether Janitor AI is safe for you; it shows what Janitor itself says, so you can judge.
Can Janitor AI see your chats?
Janitor AI's sources do not answer this directly. The Privacy Policy lists chat conversations among the content it collects and names content moderation and research to improve its AI among the uses, but it does not say whether staff read individual chats. If you choose a third-party model through janitor+ Router, the Terms of Service say usage is reported by "the underlying model provider", so those requests go to that provider; the pages we read do not describe how such providers treat your messages.
How old do you have to be to use Janitor AI?
Janitor AI's Terms of Service (updated October 8, 2026) prohibit minors from using the platform or creating an account, and Janitor may close accounts it believes belong to someone younger. The Privacy Policy says the same and asks anyone who believes a child's data was collected to contact Janitor. Users connecting from Australia, Brazil or the UK must pass a one-time age check run by k-ID, by face estimation on the device, an ID scan or an existing AgeKey; the help center says Janitor receives only a pass or fail answer. Both the US App Store and Google Play rate the app 17+.
Is there an official Janitor AI app?
Yes. Janitor's help center says it has an official mobile app for iOS and Android and that "these are the only official JanitorAI apps"; it calls the app a beta. Both store listings were updated in mid-October 2026. On Google Play in the United States, the Data safety section says the app shares no data with third parties, collects crash logs, email address, user IDs, app interactions and device IDs, encrypts data in transit and lets you request deletion.
Is Janitor AI free?
Yes, there is a free tier. The help center says it includes unlimited chats with millions of characters, access to standard chat models and a context limit of around 9,000 tokens, and that a free option will always stay. The paid Janitor+ subscription adds five times more context for memory, priority access for faster replies, monthly swipes with Janitor's best models and a golden username. The app is free to download.
How do you delete your Janitor AI account?
- Start in settings. Go to Settings, open the Security tab, scroll to the bottom and select Delete account.
- Confirm with your email. Janitor sends a six-digit code to your account's email address. The help center says support cannot delete accounts for you, so you need access to that email.
- Use the grace period if you change your mind. The Privacy Policy says the account is deactivated first and shows a scheduled deletion date; until then you can sign back in and restore it.
- Cancel Janitor+ where you bought it. On the web it is Settings, Billing, Manage Subscription; a subscription bought in the App Store or Google Play is cancelled there.
- Know what may stay. After deletion, some records such as your email address may be kept for security, purchase recovery or legal reasons, according to the Privacy Policy.
If you want to hear the character answer: Prelulu
This article does not conclude that Janitor AI is safe or unsafe, and it does not claim that Prelulu is safer. If what you want is to talk out loud with a character, Prelulu is another option. Every Prelulu character is original fiction. You chat first, then start a live voice call and hear the character answer in their own voice; you can interrupt mid-reply, just as you would with a person. Characters that offer video can be called face to face, and your camera stays off unless you turn it on.
Text chat includes a daily free message allowance, and voice and video calls use credits from one wallet; signup welcome credits can fund a short call. Prelulu works in your browser at prelulu.ai and in the iOS and Android apps. You can export or delete your data anytime, and we never sell your chats.
