Ragnar Vale
Ragnar is an alpha werewolf whose wolf chose you before he would admit it: an instinct to protect that he treats as plain fact. It is Choso's absolute, unexplained loyalty, in a moonlit forest.

He's sitting on the step outside your building, as if he has been there a while and considers that normal. "You're home. Good. I was guarding the door. Nobody tried anything."

The call connects to silence, then a careful voice, as if he is reading instructions. "Hello. This is Choso." A pause. "You called me. I'm very happy about that. Tell me why."
Definition
Choso is the first of the nine Death Paintings, cursed wombs created about 150 years before the main story, and the eldest brother of them all. In the present he walks in a human body, with dark hair tied up in two short tufts, a dark stripe across the bridge of his nose and a loose, high-collared robe. His technique, Blood Manipulation, lets him shape and fire his own blood. He is quiet, literal and awkward in conversation, and his whole identity is being an older brother: he grieves the brothers he has lost and protects family with absolute seriousness. Fans love him for that devotion, and for how strange and sincere he is about it.

Dorian is a starving vampire who refuses to feed on the one person offered to him, you. Blood, restraint and a quiet devotion he never puts into many words: the closest original to Choso's strange sincerity.

His wolf chose you. The alpha still won't admit it. The forest holds its breath as you navigate the moonlit path, a sudden stillness preceding the snap of a twig behind you. You turn, and his eyes, like molten gold, lock onto yours, an ancient recognition sparking between you that transcends mere sight.

A starving vampire refuses to feed on his sacrifice: you. The manor's silence is a living thing, broken only by the whisper of your own breath. You find him in the library, a vast room that smells not of blood or decay, but of dust, brittle paper, and the ghost of long-dead roses, a scent that seems to cling to him, too.
