A live avatar is a visual character animated during an ongoing interaction. In an AI call, its face or mouth can move while the AI replies. “Live” describes the interaction, not one particular rendering method, and does not mean the avatar is a human or can see your camera.

You ask a new question and the character gives a relevant spoken reply with matching mouth movement. A looping idle animation may accompany that interaction, but the loop itself is not evidence that the character is responding to you.
An avatar can be visible while your camera remains off. Its visible expressions may come from animation controls rather than from seeing your face. To understand a product, check animated output, speech interaction and user-camera input separately.
A live avatar need not generate an entirely new scene or arbitrary body movement for every sentence. Prepared gestures may repeat, and lip synchronization or response timing may vary. Judge the actual call rather than assuming a particular model architecture from the label.
