AI FaceTime: How to FaceTime an AI Character Live (Free)

Is there an AI FaceTime app? Not inside Apple's FaceTime, but Prelulu lets you video call an AI character face to face in your browser or the iOS and Android apps. You can have a FaceTime-style conversation with an AI character, but a Prelulu call takes place in Prelulu, not in Apple's FaceTime app. You see and hear the character, speak or type a reply, and continue the conversation. You do not need to turn on your own camera.

Can you use AI on FaceTime?

You can use Apple's own AI features in FaceTime, but a Prelulu character does not join a FaceTime call. Apple describes Live Translation, which shows translated live captions during a FaceTime call, as an Apple Intelligence feature. It helps people who speak different languages talk to each other; to talk face to face with an AI character, you start the call in Prelulu.

People often use "FaceTime an AI" to mean a conversation that feels like looking at someone while you talk. This guide uses it in that everyday sense. Which apps offer a face-to-face AI video call?

Can Siri, Gemini, Alexa+ or ChatGPT video call you?

No. As of October 31, 2026, Siri AI, Gemini Live, Alexa+ and ChatGPT voice all answer you by voice, and none of them documents a face that answers you back on a live call. Gemini Live and ChatGPT's voice with video can look through your camera instead. That is a different job from Prelulu's. Prelulu is not an assistant: it does not manage a calendar, read your email or search the web. It puts you face to face with a fictional character who answers you live. How do you FaceTime an AI?

Choose a character, begin a text conversation and start a call when you want to see and hear the next reply: tap Call, then choose Video. It works in your web browser at prelulu.ai and in the iOS and Android apps. A live conversation gives you a chance to answer: you can change the topic, slow the scene down or ask a follow-up. The character is AI, not a human performer.

You might continue a slow-burn scene from your text chat or simply have a quiet conversation. For example: "We finally have a moment alone after the party. Ask me what I wanted to say earlier." That is a fictional example written for this article. You decide the tone and boundaries.

Is an AI FaceTime call a scam?

Not when the call is with an AI character you chose in Prelulu. The scam to watch for is an unexpected call from a voice that sounds like someone you love. The FTC warns that scammers can use AI to clone a family member's voice from a short clip posted online and then call asking for money. Its advice is not to trust the voice and to call the person back on a number you know is theirs. A Prelulu call happens inside Prelulu, not through your phone number. A character can ring this device through the Prelulu app, including on the lock screen, only if you turn on incoming calls.

Does my camera have to be on?

No. Prelulu does not require you to open your camera. You can see the character while taking part by speaking or typing. Sharing your camera is optional and only on when you turn it on. You do not need to arrange your room or put yourself on screen to try the conversation.

Can the character remember our earlier story?

Yes. Every Prelulu call picks up where your last one left off, and anything you add to the character's Pinned memory, which chat and calls both read, comes along too.
